Jellycat joined the International Soft Toy market way back in 1999, creating original and innovative soft toys designed in London, UK.
At the time they were competing with soft toy giants like 'Russ Berrie', 'Gund' and 'Stieff', all of which were producing quality soft toys.

Russ Berrie ceased trading in 2011 blaming 'the world economic downturn'. In actual fact, when their founder, Russell Berrie (1933-2002) died, so did their overall quality and they gradually fell from grace.
Gund, who were world leaders in Teddy Bears, were sold to Enesco in 2008 and subsequently witnessed a steady decline. Gund was resold to 'Spin Master' in 2018 but has never really recovered it's former glories.
Steiff, who invented the Teddy Bear in 1902, have continued to provide quality bears to an International market, but they occupy the more expensive end of the market.
The door was, therefore, wide open for a 'new kid on the block' and Jellycat with their inherent quirkiness, quality materials and price point, jumped into the space left by their predecessors.
