Simple answer, yes, Jellycat is a British company based in London.
Jellycat have been creating original and innovative soft toys in London since 1999.
The company was founded by two entrepreneur brothers, Thomas and William Gatacre, who saw a huge hole in the soft toy market and decided to fill it with their own particular, quirky design style.
RRP £115.00
Our Price £109.45
The name Jellycat was dreamt up by a child who loved jellies and cats and giggled at the thought of the two together.
All of the design work is still done in the UK, but their manufacture has changed from being carried out solely in China to include Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia.
The global pandemic made a huge difference to Jellycat.
On the one hand, demand soared beyond their wildest dreams, people were at home unable to leave, and so there was a huge shift to online shopping.
On the other hand, huge demand and restrictions of movement created another set of incredibly difficult fulfilment and delivery problems.
This situation has remained, to one degree or another, from that moment onwards.
Currently Jellycat have moved very strongly into the retail sector, offering their own products on their own website.
Their two pronged sales stategy of wholesaler and retailer has been met with a few raised eyebrows but, at present, they seem to be pulling it off.
Time will tell where this leads the now famous Jellycat brand!
We hope that this fully answers the question: 'Is Jellycat British?'.
